The noose is tightening for the Modi Govt over the Rafale deal. News reports suggest that French company Dassault got major concessions even as the Centre waived off some critical clauses days before the Rs 59,000 cr deal for some 39 fighter jets was signed. The concessions include a waiver of the sovereign guarantee, while some critical anti-corruption norms were diluted to facilitate the transaction. Interestingly, such critical information was not part of the Govt's report to the Supreme Court, which gave a clean chit to the Centre based on its affidavit. The revelations come on a day when the CAG report has been submitted to the President and will be tabled in the parliament tomorrow. However, the Congress has questioned the propriety of Rajiv Mehrishi probing the deal as the Comptroller and Auditor General, pointing to his involvement in the Rafale deal as the Finance Secretary. The new twists and turns in the Rafale row and how they could pose a big challenge for Team Modi ahead of the general election, that is what Taneia Bhardwaj is discussing on this India Development Debate.
