“What you do is my ultimate responsibility,” said President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) at their 80th founding anniversary held at the NBI Gymnasium in Taft Avenue, Manila.
He warned government workers not to go into illegal drugs, especially law enforcers such as the NBI, the police and the military.
“Just do your duty, just follow my instructions and you do not have anything to worry. And I will believe your story because I am your chief,” he said.
The President also said that the five generals he initially named that are involved in illegal drugs were only the beginning. He announced that there are 6,000 policemen, 3,000 incumbent barangay captains, 17 mayors including the deceased Mayor Rolando Espinosa, Sr., two congressmen, and three to four governors who are suspected of involvement in illegal drugs.
He also aired his suspicion on somebody present at the event, “There is a guy here now. Just recently we’re digging into the records of the case and he has… a setup just to launder, to wash the money. And to date, we have the accounting of 5.1 billion, one family.”
The President added that he would eventually request the help of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to validate the results of the investigations on illegal drugs.
President Duterte was accompanied in the event by Justice (DOJ) Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II and NBI Director Atty. Dante Gierran.
The President also viewed the painting exhibit of artworks created by the NBI forensic artists and led the awarding ceremony to 27 outstanding individuals and groups of the NBI at the said celebration.
